Supreme Court Strikes Down Trump’s Birthright Citizenship Order

The U.S. Supreme Court ruled 6-3 Tuesday that the Constitution guarantees automatic citizenship to children born in the United States, striking down the executive order President Trump signed on his first day in office, NPR reported. Chief Justice John Roberts wrote the majority opinion in Trump v. Barbara, joined by the court’s three liberal justices and Justice Amy Coney Barrett; Justices Thomas, Alito, and Gorsuch dissented. The ruling closes the case brought by the ACLU and other groups on behalf of children who would have been denied citizenship under the 2025 order.
