The credit-scoring company expects $27 million in restructuring charges, with employee notifications already underway.

Fair Isaac, the company behind the FICO credit score, plans to eliminate approximately 15% of its positions as it reorganizes its operations and integrates artificial intelligence into product development. In a regulatory filing disclosed October 6, the company projected approximately $27 million in pretax charges for severance and related costs. Employee notifications began the week of October 5, and the restructuring is expected to be substantially completed by the end of its third fiscal quarter of 2027. The announcement puts an immediate human cost on a corporate strategy centered on fewer organizational layers and faster execution.

A Restructuring With Questions Still Unanswered

FICO’s workforce-reduction filing describes several changes: simplifying its operating structure, improving processes and tools, reducing management layers and incorporating AI into development. Those details establish that technology is part of the plan, but they do not show how much of the reduction comes from automation. The disclosure does not identify affected departments or locations, explain how responsibilities will move between teams, or quantify expected productivity gains. For employees, that leaves a gap between the company’s broad description of its future organization and the practical consequences for their own roles.
